Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy covers a broad range of injuries and conditions of the joints, muscles, bones, and other connective tissues of the body. Here at Clevedon Physiotherapy (Auckland), this is our specialty. We have extensive experience in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, incorporating up-to-date research and clinical expertise with the skilled application unique to each individual.

Whether it is work, sports, or recreational injury, or something that came on gradually, our Auckland physiotherapist can help. We use a variety of hands-on and movement-based techniques (exercise therapy) to assess and manage your condition based on up-to-date research and your individual needs.

Orthopaedic/Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Post-operative rehab physio is an essential part of your recovery journey. Our team has extensive and varied experience working with Auckland clients following their surgery. We work with your specialist to help you reach your optimum function after an operation.

Post-surgical rehabilitation includes a detailed rehab programme that follows specific guidelines and aims to meet specific criteria (according to the type of surgery). Here at Clevedon Physiotherapy, we aim to achieve each step of your rehabilitation within the expected post-operative time frames, taking into account individual health needs.

Each part of your post-operative rehab physio journey, as well as expected time frames, realistic outcomes, and any questions you may have, will be discussed with you at the start of your rehabilitation. Our physiotherapists will work together to achieve your goals and optimise your post-surgical outcomes.

Oncological Physiotherapy

The impact of cancer and its treatments on a person’s life can be huge. As an Auckland physiotherapist, it is a journey that we are privileged to be a part of. We can help to restore your movement, function, and exercise tolerance through tailored and safe exercise programming and hands-on treatments. We also help you to manage your scar tissue and/or cording through education, exercises, and soft tissue mobilisation.

Our team are experienced cancer rehabilitation therapists at our Clevedon based rehab physio. Sophie C is also a PINC practitioner.

Chronic Pain

Chronic/persistent pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than 3-6 months in duration. It may have started as an injury that doesn’t seem to be settling as expected, or it may have been a niggle that has come on slowly but is now affecting your day-to-day enjoyment and participation in life. It could also be from a long term condition such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, or cancer, just to name a few.

Due to the persistent nature of pain, managing it effectively, requires a different approach. Pain science has come a long way in the last 20 years and we know that it’s important to have a great medical team around you to provide thorough wraparound care. Our Auckland physiotherapists are passionate about applying the most recent research and pain science principles to allow you to regain your function and feel in control of your body again. We can help you to manage your pain so that you can get back to the activities you love and miss the most.

Exercise Therapy

Gradual loading of joints, bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments is vital in augmenting the healing process of an injury and reducing pain. When guided by our team of Auckland physiotherapists, exercise therapy in a gradual way provides essential loading of your tissues to help your body recover, adapt, and build resilience. It can not only assist your recovery, it can also lower your risk of recurrent injuries and enhance your performance in your sport, work, or daily activity.

Exercise therapy covers a large spectrum of loading from gentle movement to high impact. The nature of your injury, your medical history, baseline activity level, age, and gender are all factors that we consider when prescribing exercise therapy. We use a comprehensive assessment to determine what level of loading you need and tailor our exercise therapy accordingly.

Exercise therapy is a particular passion for Sophie V, and you will often find her practicing what she preaches!
